Hydro

Hydro is a global family of 30,000 people, present in a broad range of market segments for aluminium, metal recycling, energy, and renewables. Being committed to a sustainable future, we are working towards zero emission and energy-efficient aluminium production. Our ambitious agenda includes initiatives in new process technologies, process improvements, decarbonization technologies, and digital solutions.
Our highly skilled technology team with around 200 employees, connected to our knowledge hubs in Norway and Germany, represents a wide range of expertise to push the technological boundaries of aluminium production. Developing cutting-edge technology guarantees a creative work environment and challenging tasks from day one. You will access a well-established global competence network with many possibilities to achieve a unique knowledge and skill set.
We are now looking for talented modeling experts who want to be part of this exciting journey.
Areas of responsibility
- Develop innovative solutions for the aluminum electrolysis process (Hall-Héroult) as well as our new HalZero technology within a team specialized in the development of mathematical models
- Contribute to Hall-Héroult cell design and operational support based on the modeling of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and other multiphysics phenomena
- Engage within the HalZero technology development with your expertise in numerical simulation, such as the finite element method (FEM) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
- Operate, maintain and develop in-house modeling software as well as models based on commercial software, such as ANSYS
- Take part in operation of the model environment and databases
- Implement and deploy existing and novel modeling tools and take a leadership role in future model developments
- Participate in technology development and operational support within the electrolysis decarbonization program and to Hydro’s plants.
Desired skills and profile
- Ph.D. or M.Sc. in physics, engineering, mathematics, or another relevant subject
- Experience and interest in mathematical modelling of physical processes, preferred with a background in magnetohydrodynamics
- Programming skills (e.g., Python, Matlab, JavaScript, possibly Fortran/Java/C) are expected
- Structured, systematic with attention to details, and eager to learn and develop
- Good communication and cooperation skills. Fluent in English, orally and written.
- Flexible with respect to traveling.
- Experience in CAD software would be of advantage (Autodesk Inventor or similar)
What we offer
- The opportunity to develop in an international R&D environment with exciting technology projects
- Permanent employment in a solid and future-oriented organization
- Attractive compensation model with a wide range of additional benefits (IGBCE), flextime and the opportunity to work partly from home office
- Work in an open and cooperative interdisciplinary team culture, allowing to contribute with your own ideas and take responsibility
